Concept.
Words from the architect
The objective was to create an open and inviting building to house creative companies working within the film industry.
Originally conceived as prefabricated stacked units, the Matchbox recalls ideas of the existing film industry by conceptually mimicking a film screen. This is translated physically as the framed windows begin to portray a series of stages, which initiate interaction between the building and the street.

Elevation.
Keeping with an ecological outlook, the Matchbox will be a building of steel construction, using a dry-build method, recycled aggregate concrete, EPDM roofing membrane, and as many pre-fabrication methods as possible to minimize the impact & imprint on the site and surroundings. Energy efficient thermal glazing and vents allow for cross ventilation and thermal protection, thus avoiding environmentally taxing systems.

Street Elevation.
This 40-unit commercial building has 5.250 sq. mt. , of rentable space and will connect to and share facilities with its neighbor, "Pand Noord". Centrally located within the building is an atrium/garden space that provides a communal area for building users to relax, have a coffee or just enjoy the outdoors. The carving out of this atrium further enhances the concept of these stacked and cantilevered boxes, while allowing for total interaction between its users.
