Words from the architect
The project is located in Sand in Taufers, which is a community in South Tyrol in the Italian Alps near the Austrian border. Fitness, wellness and treatment areas are located on top of each other in the tower-like part of the building. The swimming pools on the ground floor are connected to an existing natural swimming pond.
The formal planning of the building refers to the surrounding alpine landscape. The building envelope alludes to tectonic movement. Resulting cleft like windows offer a panoramic view up to the glaciers of the Ahrn Valley. A semitransparent metallic outer shell protects the inside from curious eyes. At night the building turns into a light sculpture.

Natural swimming pool.
The vertically staggered assembling of the swimming pools and the structural layout of the cladding create a diversified and light - flooded interior. The metal structure of the cladding creates a diffuse light atmosphere inside, which should remind the visitor of a glacial cave.
The tower-like structure leads from the five story entrance front right into the indoor swimming area on the ground floor, which is part of the natural swimming pond. The sauna is divided into different theme areas which spread over three levels. Its central location within the building provides a direct connection to the pool area as well as to the wellness and treatment areas.
