Carlo Frugiuele, AIA is, together with Massimo Marinelli, a principal at Urban Office Architecture (U.O.A.) -- a collaborative architecture and urban design firm with offices in Milan and New York City.
UOA explores the gap between site and context and their virtual implications by engaging a multitude of design initiatives at various scales and in various places.
The physical distance of the two offices has allowed UOA to grow in a process of "mediated" dialogue where diverse influences are shared over electronic communication, while actual sites are often explored via third parties and or imaginative speculation. This process has allowed the office to grow and develop a series of ideas about urbanism which led to win a number of national and international competitions as well as to produce and build research based work.
Since 1998, UOA has won two Entablature Awards, the Urban Design "Europan 7" competition and is a finalist in the prestigious "Robbins Elementary Competition" in Trenton, NJ.
Both principal designers teach at Universities. Carlo Frugiuele, a graduate of the Masters of Science program in Architecture and Urban Design at Columbia University, teaches now at the Parsons School of Design.
