In 2005, Karim received an honorary doctorate from the Corcoran College of Art & Design.

His many awards include

  • 2004 A.D. Dunton Alumni Award of Distinction from his alma mater
  • 2003 + 2002 ID Magazine Annual Design Review Best of Category
  • 2003 Bon Appetit Designer of the Year
  • 2002 International Interior Design Star Award
  • 2002 Industrial Design Excellence Awards.

His work is in the permanent collections of 14 Museums worldwide including MoMA and SFMoMA and he has exhibited art in NYC at Sandra Gering gallery and Deitch projects.

In 2006 he will exhibit at the Townhouse Gallery in Cairo, Egypt and at the Price Tower Gallery in Oklahoma.

Karim was an associate Professor of Industrial Design for ten years and is now a frequent guest lecturer at universities and conferences worldwide.

Karim is published internationally and his first monograph titled 'I Want to Change the World' (Rizzoli) was published in 2001.

He edited the International Design Year book for Calmann and King in 2003 and was also featured in the recent Chronicle Books biography series on prominent industrial designers.

His second monograph for Rizzoli, titled 'Evolution' was released in Dec. 2004 and in 2005, Taschen published his book of digital renderings and inspirational essays titled Digipop.

In April 2006, Regan Books released 'Design Your Self', Karim's guide to re designing your way of life.
