'The strength of the staircase is doubled by a bronzed mirror wall, 23 meters long for a total of 125 square meters, which amplified the space and contains useful hidden wardrobes for the shop...' Says Giovanni D'Ambrosio, on the design of BIASA Boutique and Art Gallery. More
The design for this single family residence, located in a natural reserve, borrows from both -- the natural and the vernacular context to blend well with them. More
"The terrorist attack on Bali, on 12th October 2001, destroyed the original Caruso Maccaroni Club that we had designed. That first project spoke of modernity in the local tradition; the new project speaks of a comfortable and non-aggressive space -- a space which will give people the 'joie de vivre' in a country full of sad memories." Says the designer Giovanni D'Ambrosio. More
Giovanni D'Ambrosio was born in Rome on 5 July 1959. He has an artistic background, having studied advertising graphics and architecture in Rome; where his professional studio is today situated.
He has lectured on his work at Rome, Florence and Venice's universities. He has taught industrial design at Quasar institute, at the Academy of Arts in Rome and at IMBAR, The National Institute of Bioarchitecture.
The architectural experience, obtained in Italy by working on design objects and houses, was fully-developed during a five-year period in Indonesia, where he realized several private building projects such as restaurants, an art gallery and villas, learning more and more about the primitive nature and sensuality. In Bali he realized: Maccaroni restaurant (which was rebuilt after the terrorist attack in 2002), Nero restaurant and Pantarei restaurant; private houses for Roziadi and Bournias' families; Biasa Art Space, an art gallery; Kayu Kayu Gallery; Sunrise School, a kindergarden (he received a nomination at Aga Khan Awards, 2004 for this project).
He has been working with Ray Group, a society of development, on several Projects throughout Australia since 2004. Among these projects: refurbishment of Sheraton Mirage Gold Coast and of Sheraton Mirage Port Douglas (Queensland). In Mount Hotham (Victoria), Bale resort, a New Residential Building made of 48 five-star apartments, is in progress, together with the realization of new villas in Dinner Plain village (www.newhotham.com.au). Moreover, he has designed two restaurants, White Room and Roughies'.
Some of his works are published in: Il Progetto, l'Architettura, Abitare, Stilindustria, Interior Design, A+ (Indonesian), City Magazine (Hong Kong), ZIP (Hong Kong), Series: Universale di Architettura - Digital Design, New Frontiers for the Objects, Periplus: Bali Modern, The Art of Tropical Living; Architetti Italiani under 50, la Triennale di Milano, ed.
