"The inspiration came from observing the harp as a sensual and magical music instrument, so large harps in Corian from 6 to 10 metres long and 3 metres high, were designed to accommodate items of the Runtal collections on rotating black panels. The composition of harps has been made simpler thanks to the use of light ashlars with sophisticated concealed steel closures.", says Giancarlo Zema Design Group on Harps. More
The Giancarlo Zema Design Group is an architecture studio in Rome, specialized in semi-submerged architectural structures, marine parks, floating habitats and yacht design.
It was founded in 2001 by the architect Giancarlo Zema as a dynamic and flexible organization, which guarantees the whole design process -- from concept to executive details.
Use of advanced technologies and design software allow us to project and calculate different planning solutions.
Computer-aided design systems allow us to realise 3D models, prospective views and renderings by means of full layout presentation, therby offering clients all the necessary information on the project before it's realisation.
Our projects are frequently shown in European exhibitions and published in the most important scientific, design, nautical and architecture magazines.
In 2002 American Popular Mechanics magazine dedicated the frontcover to the Trilobis 65, defining it as "the most innovative project of thelast ten years".
Two years later the English nautical magazine Captain's Log, described the Jelly-fish 45 as the best project that represented "the Italian Marine Scene" dedicating a splendid front cover to it.
In 2004 The Sunday Times wrote about our work as "design in the brave new waterworld" and the New York Times defined it as "the new design of aquatic life".
We believe that the future of architecture is on the water and that shortly man will be more and more inclined towards living a floatingexperience. For this reason our efforts are going towards creating innovative architecture in harmony with nature.
With this aim in mind we have partnered with ZLH (Pty) Ltd (South Africa) an engineering consulting company for the engineering of our projects and collaborated with Underwater Vehicles Inc. (Canada) a leader in the development of underwater vessels.
